Santa Flavia, is the birth place of Girolamo. His mother, Giuseppa Megna, was born in Santa Flavia. His father, Leonardo DiStefano, was born in the near by town of Bagheria, which was depicted in the GodFather Part III. It is one mile west of Santa Flavia. Currently Santa Flavia has 10,622 inhabitants.
Santa Flavia is about 10 miles from metropolis of Palermo.
In the Middle Ages the name of the town was Solanto, but in 1880 the name was changed in honor of the controlling family. The territory has always been dominated by various feudal families.
Santa Flavia rises on a flat coastal area and is 180 feet above sea-level. Inside the town are the remains of the ancient city of Soluntum.
This seaside village sits among the fjords on the Tyrrhenian Sea which create sand and pebble beaches.
The main agricultural products are vegetables and citrus fruit, notably, grapefruit. Important is fish production and it’s known for fresh fishes of various sort. Santa Flavia is also well known for it’s olive grove estates and it attracts wealthy tourists during the summer months.
